We took a break from packing to try on a couple of pretty dresses that Esther hasn't actually worn anywhere yet. Then we went outside for a mini-photo shoot! I'm no photographer, but my little girl sure is beautiful ...

Jesse Tyler, Five Months
A couple of days ago (August 3) was Jesse's five-month birthday! So here's the latest for our little man ...
Jesse loves his bouncer chair! He could sit in that thing and bounce himself for a very long time if we left him alone. He is still a happy, easy-going baby and pretty content with sitting or playing by himself - although he loves to have attention, too. He smiles and laughs when someone talks to him or plays with him.
In the last few weeks, Jesse has really gotten excited about his sister Esther. He loves it when she talks to him or tries to tickle him or blow raspberries on his belly. He likes to watch her playing or listen to her talking. I can see the start of a great sibling relationship!!
He is also getting stronger. He can't sit up all by himself yet but he can stay up for a little longer before he tilts over to one side. And he is definitely getting closer to crawling. If he could just get that little tummy off the ground, he could take off. I wonder if he'll actually crawl before he can sit up! We also bought him cute little Nike tennis shoes to encourage him to put some weight on his legs when we hold him in a standing position. I think one of those jumpers is on the list for him soon ...
He also has grown A LOT in the last few weeks, and it's all in his length. I think he's just about at 27 inches now, and he was only 20 inches when he was born. He's so long that the 9 month onesies now fit the best. The 3-6 month size had to go! And he looks almost too long for his infant car seat. I think Esther was in an infant seat until she was about a year old. : )
And a special shout-out to Tyler ... today is his Half Birthday! Happy Half Birthday, sweetheart!

Jesse also loves to play with his little toys. He likes to hold everything and of course, put it in his mouth! He seems curious about anything he can grab onto. A few days ago, he was playing on the floor and a newspaper was sitting nearby. Well, he got that paper and stuck it in his mouth. I took it away and scooted him over, but a few minutes later he had maneuvered back to the paper and had it right back in his mouth!

My Birthday!
My 28th birthday was last Tuesday (July 26). Here's how we celebrated:
Tyler threw me a party with the four of us at home. That was exactly what I wanted! He went all out with balloons, streamers, signs, birthday plates, cups and napkins, hats, noise makers, confetti ... the works!!

Tyler bought Chocolate Spoon Cake from McAlister's deli, also exactly what I wanted. I saw it on the menu a few weeks ago and was reminded of the Chocolate Lovin' Spoon Cake at Macado's ... yum! He also bought HEB Churn Style Cookies and Cream ice cream. Also my current favorite. : )

We thought Jesse may have felt left out, so we gave him a little bite of ice cream ...
but he didn't really know what to do with it.
But Esther sure knew!

Potty Trained! Esther Update
Well, I think I can officially say that Esther is potty trained! For about the last six months, Esther has gone back and forth between diapers, training undies, and pull-ups. She had good potty days and bad potty days. Right after Jesse was born, she had a stomach virus which seemed to set her back in the potty department.
But about a week ago, I think it clicked!! We switched her back to only the cloth training undies and she has done great. Not only that, her pull-up is usually dry after naps and even nighttime (unless Mommy takes too long to hear her in the morning!). This biggest motivator of all has been ...
New big girl panties!! : )
I let her pick from about six different "character" panties at the store. She finally chose the Princess panties, as she has lately developed a thing for princesses. (What can I say? She is my daughter, after all, although I have not intentionally encouraged it and we don't really watch the Disney movies.) She is super excited, and she showed the package to everyone at the store when we bought them.
It really is amazing. It's like something just switched, and the potty went from being a struggle for her to remember or to make it in time to being no big deal. And even on the "big girl potty" - with no potty seat - instead of her little training potty. It's great!
In other news ... Esther has been very excited about money lately. I guess most kids are excited about this stuff that their parents use to buy them cool things, but it just kicked in for Esther in the last couple of months. So starting when Tyler paid Esther the $4 to eat asparagus and then $2 for taking a nap in the van when we went to Oklahoma, we are trying to teach her how to handle money. It may be too early, but why not start now with her $6? We designated $2 as money to give away (like at church), $2 to save, and $2 to spend. (All this is per Dave Ramsey's ideas for kids.)
It seemed to work great! Esther is excited about taking her $2 to church and she was super excited to take $2 to the store today to spend. Here is what she bought:

We played with it before and after lunch today. We'll have to break it out with Papa later since Tyler is a true Play-Doh master!
Something else funny is that Esther called me "Sarah" yesterday! I know she hears Tyler and other people call me Sarah all the time, but she suddenly started saying it. She thought it was great, but Tyler explained to her that she calls me "mama." It was pretty cute.
And now it's time to get ready for some birthday fun... Yay!!

Sibling Resemblance
For a fun comparison, here are a few pictures of Esther when she was about 4-8 months old. I thought she and Jesse looked totally different until Tyler and I were going through old pictures the other night. There is a sibling resemblance!!! Super excited about that!!!
This is Esther - I have totally seen Jesse with this expression ... and Esther still makes this face when she is thinking about something!
Well, Esther is about 8 months here. We were at Tyler's friend's wedding in Florida.
Not because she looks like Jesse, here but because it's so cute!!
This one looks like Jesse to me ... but I think it's the expression again. Maybe their expressions look alike?
